Profile: Reptile Life

Who said ‘never work with animals or children’?  Whoever it was hasn’t had the chance to encounter the services of Reptile Life.

Rob Louth and his co-workers provide a range of services for animal encounters, and in my case, photo shoots.  Although you might think that they only provide reptiles, they have a wide range of animals available.  I have used the services of Reptile Life for three photo shoots to date, and will definitely book them again.

Setting up for the day - Gary ClutterbuckThe first time was for a shoot with model Luxbot Lacheln in June 2014. As part of our shoot together, I wanted to do a Medusa themed shoot.   I was originally planning to get a headdress that looked like snakes on and around her head, but after talking to Rob, he suggested that Reptile Life could provide a range of snakes for the purpose, both large and small.

Rob and his assistant Jason turned up with a vast array of snakes (14), including Walter, who is around 17 feet long!  I was a little apprehensive before the day, having never been up close to snakes before.  I can’t say that I had a phobia about them, but there were certainly a few nerves.

Luxbot Lacheln with Ryo LoveWith Rob’s reassurance, it wasn’t long before the entire team had snakes around us, and it’s amazing how quickly the nerves disappear.  They really are beautiful animals.

Soon after the shoot, my laptop and backup drives were stolen during a burglary and I lost many of my photographs, including all the shots from this shoot.  Thankfully, I’d forwarded one of the images to a friend, who was able to send me the image back and was eventually retouched by Irina Istratova.  The image is shown below.  My second shoot with Reptile Life will feature in a future blog post.

I’m still here!

Day 2 – no visitors yet (though hoping someone may come along soon), and I’m still here.  I haven’t given up blogging yet.  How long will my enthusiasm last?  Who knows.  If this takes off in the way my Facebook page has, it will be worth persevering,

My most recent photoshoot was with the amazing Roswell Ivory. A very talented writer in addition to her modelling skills, it was a pleasure to spend a day with her at the local studio I tend to use.  We shot several sets of images, mainly latex, and I’m looking forward to getting the first set retouched in preparation for potential publication.  One of the outfits she brought particularly caught my attention, as it fits perfectly with a theme that I’d been wanting to shoot for a while.  I’m currently trying to find a suitable retoucher who can sprinkle the magical ingredients to turn the photos I’ve taken into something that we can be proud to share.  Fingers crossed that it won’t be too long before I can show some of them online.

I had hoped to get some outfits from a designer to shoot in time with Roswell, but unfortunately, the clothing I was provided with didn’t turn up until after the shoot had taken place.  I’m therefore currently trying to arrange one last shoot before Christmas.  Opening the parcel that came was a surprise, as I had no idea of how much the designer was sending.  They have been incredibly generous, and I hope to shoot something that will be suitable to promote their products.  If you like latex, then you’ll love these.  More information about this will appear in an upcoming blog post.

Ok. Here we go…

Welcome.

What else am I supposed to put on my first blog post?  It’s difficult to know where to start really.

I’ve been thinking about starting a blog for some time.  I looked into it a couple of months ago, and it looked like it might be a bit of a hassle to set up,so after a couple of evenings researching options, I took the easy choice and decided not to bother… until now.

This first post has happened purely because I wanted to ‘like’ a post on someone else’s blog, and to do that, I had to register.  I’ve just registered, and here I am, suddenly committed to blog writing and wondering if I will get any further than writing this first post.

My intention is to use this to post extra photos, and background information regarding my photoshoots that don’t get published on my Facebook page www.facebook.com/garyclutterbuckphotography

Unless I get bored before I submit this, there will hopefully be another post coming soon.  You never know, I might even have something interesting to write about!  In the meantime, thanks for making it this far without falling asleep.
